Assuming it doesn't wedge, dropping 1700+ yards/meters even impacting the sides will cripple and destroy a building.

I assume from the scare quotes that Chen is not in fact on it.
Also I'm finding this attempt over the last few strips to make anybody actually care about the digbots to be... odd. They've always been disposable, peripheral comic relief characters.

Pete did a pretty good job of it before with ZHOAS. Actually, I still didn't care about her, because we already knew - like Gwynn - that she was horrible, but I cared about Torg caring.

I don't think it's as much about the digbots as it is about the differences (and similarities) between Torg and Schlock, and how they view others.

I like the way that pete, by having schlock give the "clean house" command, has ensured that all of the potentially beloved characters were killed off by the villain *before* they might have otherwise been killed off by the writer.
