as of now, 44.
I'll add a little thing that says how many we've done. I like that idea.
EDIT: Added. Also, I've added a percent complete gauge. Looks like as of today, each strip constitutes about .025% of the total amount.

one last thing I should probably point out, even though it's probably kinda obvious:
the strip the page gives you is the one it wants you to transcribe. Yes, you can use the navigation links on Sluggy.com to change comics, but my site doesn't know you're doing that, and anything you submit gets counted as the transcript for the date it originally gave you, so please be careful about that.
I don't think anyone's done that yet, just pointing it out.
Oh, and if it does happen, don't worry. I can go in and change it, or the next person who gets served that comic will see that the transcript is wrong and hopefully change it.

Yeah... just so there's no misunderstanding, I was totally *assigned* the first strip, at random. Which makes it that much more sweet :)
(I'm also mentioning in the transcript any time I see the pun demon, but that's just me.)

I wonder if there's any way to let everybody who reads sluggy help at this?

Is there a way to go back and add on or edit submissions?

The_Red_Hunter wrote: Is there a way to go back and add on or edit submissions? It doesn't discriminate between ones that have been entered and ones that haven't. It sometimes serves ones that have already been transcribed so that the transcription can be double-checked.
As more comics become transcribed, the frequency of double-checking will increase.
However, you can expedite the process. If you're clever, you can probably figure it out all by yourself. But to simplify the process, just PM me the entry you want changed and I'll do it.
Also, looks like someone's just entering keywords. While that will help searching an awful lot, a transcript would be better if someone wants to look up a direct quote.

That would be me. My memory of Sluggy history is a bit sketchy in places (some of us haven't read the entire comic multiple times) and my possible (read: guaranteed) mistakes in transcribing the comics have been nagging me for some time. If I don't know what exactly is going on I stick to keywords that are relevant to the comic. This is why I brought up my previous question in the first place. I'll try to alter my methods in the future.

um... but the comic is right underneath the text box... you don't need to remember it to transcribe it.
Keywords are good too. A lot of people have been adding keywords to the end of the transcript. I myself try to transcribe not only the dialogue, but the characters speaking, the sound effects, and the actions, hoping anything that anyone would search for would be included.
And like I said, if you want something changed, just PM me and I'll do it.

Well, for a start perhaps we could get one of the mods to sticky this thread [hint, hint]

What do we transcribe, anyways? The lines? The plot? The characters?

whatever you want.
I'd suggest all three. The more you type, the more there is to search for later.

Should I type Zoe or Zoë of Zoë(Zoe) Or what do you think would be best for the search?

I'm gonna force the search to look for both Zoe and Zoë when either is typed, so type whichever.
